2011 BMW 6-Series Convertible debuts

The 2011 BMW 6 Series Convertible

The 2011 BMW 6 Series Convertible - on sale March 2011

BMW has revealed the 2011 BMW 6-Series Cabriolet. Available initially as the 640i or 650i it goes on sale Spring 2011.

Perhaps BMW wants to grab a slice of the top-end convertible action next Spring, or maybe they just fancied turning normal model launch convention on its head by launching the soft-top first. But whatever BMW’s reasoning the fact is that we will get the 2011 BMW 6-Series Convertible in March, probably six months before the 6-Series Coupe arrives.

The 2011 6-Series Convertible is, you won’t be shocked to learn, exactly what we’ve been expecting for quite some time (we even brought you the first photo of the 2011 BMW 6-Series Convertible last month) and is a topless take on the new BMW 6 Series Coupe we saw at Frankfurt back in September. We had the first photo of the new 6-Series Convertible last month and the news that we wouldn’t get official news until Detroit in the New Year.

But that’s all changed – if it was ever right; BMW has churned out all the bumph today including the new 6-Series Convertible photos at the bottom and a full 2011 BMW 6-Series Convertible Press Release. So what’s on offer?

At launch there will be a choice of either a 3.0 litre six-pot with 320bhp in the BMW 64oi or a 4.4 litre turbo with 407bhp in the 650i (I know, BMW’s model designations now make even less sense than Mercedes’ do). Performance is not too shoddy from a big, four-seat convertible either, with the 640i doing 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and the 650i in 5.0 seconds. Economy is 35mpg and 26mpg respectively.

Further models will probably get added to the range, with a turbo diesel almost certain and the new M6 – with BMW’s new 4.8 litre twin turbo V8 - entering production probably in 2012.

Much better looking than the last 6-Series.

See…this is the reason i dont like German cars. They’re too generic. They need to change their style a bit.

This car looks very dated. Plus bmw needs to upgrade their gauges and change the incredibly boring dash.
