A facelift for the 2016 Audi A3 (and Audi S3) sees the usual cosmetic tweaks and new engines, including a 3-cylinder 1.0 litre petrol turbo.
The 2016 Audi A3 – and its S3 sibling – have been given a bit of a makeover with cosmetic tweaks, new equipment and new engine options.
The cosmetic stuff is much as expected, with the hatch, cabriolet and saloon all getting a modified grille, narrower headlights and a tailgate that looks wider and gets a new diffuser. There’s also new paint options and matrix LED headlights are an option.
Inside, the A3 gets a new steering wheel and an updated MMI infotainment system with simpler menus and better voice control, and Audi’s virtual cockpit with its 12.3″ TFT instruments gets added to the option list.
The cosmetic stuff is standard facelift fodder, but Audio has had a play with engine options, with a new 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol as well as a new 2.0 litre TFSI.
The 1.0 litre petrol 3-cylinder engine arrives in the A3 for the first time, delivering 114bhp and 147lb/ft of torque and will be the new A3 entry-level engine, with the new 2.0 litre TFSI petrol delivering 188bhp and 236lb/ft mand mated to a 7-speed dual clutch ‘box and available with quattro 4WD.
Other engine options include a 1.4 litre petrol with 148bhp, a 1.6 litre diesel with 109bhp and a 2.0 litre diesel with 148bhp and 181bhp outputs.
The 2016 Audi S3, which gets much the same cosmetic updates as the A3, also gets a bit of a power boost t0 306bhp, and the A3 e-tron hybrid remains unchanged.
Technology updates include improved lane assist and pre-brake, autonomous braking and cross traffic alert.
The 2016 Audi A3 and S3 go on sale at Audi’s UK dealers in May.
