The 2017 Ford Fiesta was revealed last night at a Ford event in Germany, showcasing the new Fiesta’s four model range – ST-Line, Titanium, Active and Vignale.
As Ford managed to tell us, frequently, the Fiesta – the UK’s best-selling car – had its Dr Who moment last night, regenerating in to the seventh generation and, in the process, becoming not one new car, but four.
In a move that could herald a new model focus at Ford, Ford has decided the successful Fiesta should no longer just be a cracking little car with terrific handling, but should be all things to all buyers.
Sensibly, Ford are still planning to cater for ‘traditional’ Fiesta buyers with the Fiesta Titanium, although this moves a bit upmarket with more kit and more tech to give a bit of space from the new Ka+ that’s breathing down its neck.
Next up is one for the lovers of a sporty Fiesta, with the Fiesta ST-Line offering the body kit look you’d expect from an ST, firmer suspension, sports seats and a general air of purpose.
In an attempt to convince buyers that a Ford is a more cost effective buy than a ‘Premium’ brand, Ford’s Ghia for the 21st century gets employed to create the Fiesta Vignale, with toys and trimmings and, we’d guess, better margins than the bread and butter cars.
Finally, there’s Ford’s move in to the ‘Allroad’ / ‘Cross Country’ semi-crossover makeover for the Fiesta, with the new Fiesta Active offering stuff like a raised ride height and roof rails for a bit of ‘ sit up higher and feel superior’ Fiesta motoring.
Ford still hasn’t released a lot of information on the new Fiesta, so expect more as the week, or even today, goes on.
