The new McLaren 600LT Spider arrives as McLaren’s latest Spider and the open-top take on the 600LT Coupe. Costs £201,500.
Last week McLaren teased the arrival of a new Longtail model which seemed intent on making us guess just what Longtail it would be. The only real option was the 600LT Spider, but McLaren rather gave the game away by posting a video tease with 600LT on the number plate. Oh, well.
But now McLaren has taken the wraps off the 600LT Spider and, surprise, surprise, everything under the skin is shared with the 600LT Coupe, which means McLaren’s 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 with 592bhp to play with.
That 592bhp (and 457lb/ft of torque) all goes to the back wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, all enough to scuttle the 600LT Spider to 62mph in 2.9 seconds.
Weight increase is just 50kg over the Coupe – helped by not needing RSJs to keep things together thanks to the carbon fibre tub – and the roof will go up and down at speeds of up to 25mph, with a wind deflector to cut buffeting when it’s down.
If you wish, you can spend an extra £18k over and above the 600LT’s £201.5k price by opting for the MSO Clubsport Pack which gives you carbon fibre race seats, carbon fibre bits inside and out, titanium wheel nuts and the promise of a drop in weight of up to 100kg.
McLaren say there is limited availability for the 600LT Spider, and that the order book is now open.
