Fiat has finally got round to announcing a convertible version of the Abarth 500 – the Abarth 500C – which will debut at Geneva.
It’s taken Fiat a very long time to catch up with the story we ran in July last year. We’d heard that Fiat were planning a hot version of the hugely successful Fita 500C – the convertible – in the form of the Abarth 500C. We then got confirmation that the Abarth 500C was coming in October and finally we’ve learnt that Fiat will be taking the new Abarth 500C to the Geneva Motor Show next week.
Fiat have taken a leaf out of MINI’s book and are churning out seemingly endless versions of the 500. But it worked for MINI and it seems to be working for Fiat. Sales of the 500 are very strong and we have no doubt the Abarth 500C will sell well.
Powered by Fiat’s 1.4 litre 138bhp T-Jet engine the Abarth 500C should be able to despatch the 0-60mph in around 7.3 seconds. It looks as if theere will also be an Esseesse version coming along later which will have 157bhp and will give the MINI JCW convertible a run for its money.
No word on price yet, although we would expect prices to be substantially less than the MINI JCW Convertible. Even the Abarth 500C Esseesse should come in at under £20k.
More details when we get them.

You can’t beat Fiat for city cars, that Abarth is so good looking. Don’t think I could bring myself to trade in the 500 I already have though. 😛

Exactly how I felt…until they went and brought out the Fiat 500 Twin air!
