The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – the range topper for the new Giulia range – gets its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Costs from £59,000.
It’s a year since the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio was revealed as the pinnacle of a range of Giulia models that hadn’t themselves been revealed, as Alfa set out its stall in the quest to steal sales from the BMW M3 and Mercedes AMG C63.
But by November we learnt Alfa was having a few problems with the Giulia QV, and it had put back the sales launch until mid-2016. And here we are, in mid-2016, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has now been given its UK public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ahead of going on sale in the UK.
Looking like a proper 21st century Alfa saloon should, the Giulia QV sports the new 2.9 litre V6 with a healthy 503bhp and 0-62mph in a very respectable 3.9 seconds on its way to 190mph.
The impressive performance is helped by a sophisticated rear suspension setup, a carbon fibre active aero splitter generating downforce and lots of carbon fibre – for the bonnet, roof, splitter and rear spoiler – and aluminium for the doors and wings.
At a starting price of £59,000, the Giulia QV is a bit more expensive than the BMW M3 and a bit cheaper than the C63 AMG, but it comes with a good spec including 19″ alloys, Alfa’s Active Aero, Sports Exhaust, Body Kit, Active Suspension, Bi-Xenon lights with LED running lights, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure, Blind Spot and reversing camera.
Interior spec includes leather and Alcantara sports seats (heated in the front), flappy paddles, 7″ TFT instrument cluster, Alfa’s Uconnect 8.8″ infotainment, DAB, Climate, auto lights and wipers and Cruise.
Alfa say the Giulia QV will be ‘available to order shortly‘ at Alfa Romeo dealers in the UK, but it looks like it will be October before that actually happens.
