Austria’s Kreisel Electric has built an electric Hummer H1 SUV, which has been revealed by Hummer loving Arnold Schwarzenegger at their new Plant.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is known for his love of the monster Hummer H1, and he’s Austrian. So who better to reveal an electric Hummer H1 in Austria?
Kreisel Electric has opened a new Research and Development Centre in Austria, and to make a bit of a bang they enlisted the world’s most famous Austrian and Hummer-loving actor/bodybuilder/politician they could find – Arnold Schwarzenegger – to do the reveal.
Kreisel Electric electrified Arnie’s Mercedes G Wagon last year, but now they’ve gone one better by turning the notoriously thirsty Hummer H1 in to an SUV even a green anorak would find hard to hate.
Kreisel has fitted 100kWh of their own batteries to the Hummer, stuck an electric motor on each axle and turned it in to a 483bhp electric SUV with a 200 mile range.
That’s a big change for a huge SUV which would normally only manage single figure mpg, and which emits a massive 470g/km of CO2. Now it’s emission free (well, at the point of use).
Kreisel has no plans to mass-produce the electric Hummer, but are using it as a way to demonstrate what they can already achieve, and with their new R&D facility rocking and rolling with more than 200 employees next year, they’ll be looking to expand their e-mobility offerings globally.
As Arnie said:
Kreisel Electric electrified my G-class last winter. And now a Hummer. If Kreisel keeps it up at this pace, I will soon be able to fly here from LA in an electric airplane.
