The Aston Martin AM-RB 001 – Aston’s hypercar collaboration with Red Bull – may cost around £2.5 million, but all 150 are sold out.
For a car that’s probably two years away, that’s some feat. Although Aston did say they had serious interest at three times the level of the 99 cars first planned. But there will, it seems, now be 150 AM-RB cars.
But for your very serious £2.5 million, you will get a car that promises much, designed by Adrian Newey and with a V12 delivering 1000bhp per tonne. Which should make it quicker than the McLaren P1, LaFerrari, Porsche 918 or even a Koenigsegg.
That will be down to very impressive aerodynamics, weight kept down to around 1000kg and a new V12 sitting behind the driver’s head, delivering 1000bhp and revving to 9500rpm.
That power will go to the rear wheels through a single-clutch sequential gearbox from Xtrac with an extra 80bhp KERS-like boost available,a nd although performance is more important than top speed, Aston say the AM-RB will hit 250mph.
