A less powerful engine for the Audi Q7 isn’t the first thing that jumps to mind as the right way to go, but Audi thinks there’s a market. So it’s introducing the Q7 3.0 TDI quattro 204PS offering a lower entry price, better fuel economy and lower emissions.
Despite a modest 201bhp in a car that’s the size of a small planet, Audi reckons you can still get to 62mph in 9.1 seconds and top out at 127mph. Mind you, if you do that you will probably end up getting fewer miles to the gallon than you would in the current 3.0 TDI quattro 245PS Q7.
But if you’re happy to pootle around Audi say the official combined economy comes in at 39.2mpg and emissions on the official tests are 189g/km. Which are far from shoddy for such a big lump.
All the new 204PS Q7s come with an 8-speed tiptronic box and 4WD, and you can have your new eco Q7 with all Audi’s Q7 trim levels, including the new S-Line Plus specification.
The S-Line plus costs an extra £4,500 over the regular S-Line spec, but you do get 21″ alloys, privacy glass, metallic paint, powered tailgate and running boards. Inside the S-Line Plus offers Verano leather, hard disk SatNav, Bluetooth, Google Earth, Wi-Fi, iPod connection and seven seats.
With a new Audi Q7 for sale in the shape of the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI quattro 204PS, Audi should be able to mop up a few extra sales in the last years of the Q7′s life before we see an all new Audi Q7 in 2013.
