It’s being reported that Audi are bringing yet another e-Tron concept to the Paris Motor Show, this time the Audi R4 e-Tron Spyder.
Audi has been playing games with their ‘e-Tron’ branding for the last year or two, churning out a full sized R8 e-Tron, a more compact R4 e-Tron and the most relevant of the lot – because it makes sense in the real world of congested urban areas – the Audi A1 e-Tron.
So with a new major motor show looming – the Paris Motor Show in a few weeks – where are Audi going to go with the e-Tron this time? Will they be looking to emulate the Nissan LEAF and try to convince us a C-Segment Audi e-Tron is a good idea? Or are they going to go the luxo-barge route and roll out an e-Tron version of the new A8?
We really can’t decide. The whole electric car thing we find so difficult to take seriously – beyond the electric city car – that nothing would surprise us as car makers work hard to be seen to be embracing electric cars. But what we hadn’t actually considered is that Audi might turn up at Paris with a convertible e-Tron.
According to Auto Motor und Sport a convertible e-Tron is exactly what we’re going to get in the shape of the Audi R4 e-Tron Spyder. Which, if the story is true, means you can tick off another pointless implementation of the e-Tron platform for the sake of motor show headlines.
But what you can do is think that – now the Audi R4 is signed off for production – we can also look forward to a Spyder version at some point with a proper ICE, rather than a political statement electric motor.
