The BAC Mono has made a lot of noise for a small production car bolted together by an unknown company since it arrived on the scene back in March. But then that’s no surprise; it is an astonishing car.
And now our Colonial Cousins on the other side of the Pond are going to get the chance to enjoy the delights of the BAC Mono, with California’s Sector 111 taking on import and distribution for the Mono, which will sit alongside one of Sector 111’s other specialist imports – the Ariel Atom.
What we don’t know is whether the US will get the Mono as a road legal car or just a track day car. For the sake of Californians mesmerised by the prospect of having Stig’s car of 2011 to blat round Mullholland Highway, we do hope Sector 111 will be able to make the Mono road legal.
With a weight of just 540kg and 280bhp from its Cosworth 4-pot engine, the thrills on offer from the Mono are tantalising. But at £67k in the UK – which translates to a bit over $103k plus tax – it may seem very pricey to our American friends.
But with just 12 Monos on offer for 2012 in the States, we’d be amazed if Sector 111 can’t find that many buyers just from the car nuts in Tinsel Town.
