Bentley Continental GT Hybrid?

Bentley Continental GT caught sporting gubbins that looks suspiciously like a Hybrid power train

We’ve got used to Hybrid Cars over the last few years. The Toyota Prius has become ubiquitous as the ‘Green Halo’ car, but high-end car makers are turning to Hybrid options to reduce emissions and boost performance. We already have a Porsche Hybrid in the Cayenne, and there is no doubt that Porsche will be offering us a Panamera Hybrid before too long. Ferrari are working on Hybrid 4×4 systems and we reported yesterday that Lamborghini are working on Hybrid options.

So far, Bentley has opted for Bio-Fuel as a good starting point for going ‘Green’, but if the spy shot you see here is anything to go by, it looks like we could be seeing a Bentley Hybrid before too long.

Snapped in Spain, where many car makers do hot weather testing in Europe, this Bentley Continental GT is definitely sporting something major in the mechanical department that doesn’t fit with the stock car. The guy who snapped the car also said it was running very quietly – perhaps indicating it was in electric cruise mode.

Bentley has made it clear they will be introducing more eco-friendly powertrains in the coming years, and as part of VW they will have access to much of what the group has to offer, including the very clever Hybrid system Porsche has developed.

Nice thought – a Bentley with the power of a W12 and the consumption of a V6.
