The BMW 8 Series Convertible has been officially revealed, The new range-topping 8 Series Convertible costs from £83,270 and goes on sale in the UK in April 2019.
Yesterday we had the first photo of the new BMW 8 Series Convertible as BMW’s new range-topping convertible leaked out on to the interwebs a touch early. But now we have the real deal, with the 8 Series Convertible officially revealed.
Remarkably, the 8 Series Convertible looks good, with the chopped off roof’s folding cloth cover lending the 8 Series an air of elegance perhaps missing in the Coupe, a roof which can rise and fall in just 15 seconds – at speeds up to 31mph – with wind deflector and (optional) neck warming.
Beyond the new canvas roof and its cover, the changes are minimal over the 8 Series Coupe, but there are new cross struts and shear panel, with rollover protection added, with aluminium bars behind the back seats.
Just like the Coupe, the Convertible comes with just two engine options (for now) with the entry-level 3.0 litre diesel delivering 316bhp and 500lb/ft of torque, scooting to 62mph in a very decent 5.6 seconds.
But the car you’ll probably actually want is the M850i Convertible, with its 4.4 litre V8 delivering 526bhp and 553lb/ft of torque, good for 62mph in 3.9 seconds, two tenths down on the Coupe thanks to the Convertible’s extra weight.
Starting point is the BMW 840d xDrive at £83,270, with the M850i xDrive starting at £107,045, with both getting 4WD xDrive, eight-speed auto ‘box and adaptive dampers.
