BMW i & BMW i1 – BMW i9 trademarked

BMW MegaCity Project i

BMW MegaCity Project i

BMW has trademarked ‘BMW i and BMW i1 to i9 in preparation for the launch of their new sub-brand of MegaCity / Project-i City Cars

We’ve know for some time that BMW are working on a  sub-brand to launch a range of City Cars under the banner of ‘BMW Project i‘. We’ve assumed that this will end up being a revival if the Isetta name to badge up the BMW city runarounds. But it looks as if that’s not the case after a pile of new BMW trademarks were posted on the e90Post forum.

BMW has trademarked the ‘BMW i’ using that much loved marketing tool – the lower case ‘i’. How stunningly original. Not just BMW i but everything from i1, i2, i3, i4, i5, i6, i7, i8 and  i9. Also trademarked is BMW i1, BMW i2, BMW i3, BMW i4, BMW i5, BMW i6, BMW i7, BMW i8 and BMW i9. Which tells us absolutely nothing about the forthcoming Megacity project cars except it looks like there may be one or two variations.

So it looks like our guess that the new range will be badged BMW i-Setta is a non starter. Shame.
