BMW has released a plethora of detail on the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept which will really does seem to raise the benchmark in Hybrid cars. Featuring a 3cyliner turbo diesel engine working in conjunction with a pair of electric motors – one in the transmission housing and one for the front wheels -it offers performance comparable to an M3, but economy equivalent to… nothing else with comparable performance.

Apart from the huge press release, BMW ahs also sent us around 90 photos, which should give you a pretty good idea of what t hey have come up with. This is just a concept, so it has all the ususal concept flights of fancy, but the drivetrain is not a concept. In essence it is a fully production-ready platform.

It’s going to be very interesting to see the Vision at Franfurt. Even more interesting is going to be seeing exactly what a production version  of a BMW with this drivetrain is going to be like.
