The rumour-mill is proclaiming a new BMW M3 to celebrate BMW’s win at the Nurburgring 24hr this weekend, a hot version of the M3 GTS – the BMW M3 GTS-R.
Apparently.
That’s probably the best way to put the rumour that’s doing the rounds today, namely a limited edition of the limited edition BMW M3 GTS to shout about BMW’s Nurburgring 24hr victory this last weekend, where a works M3 GT2s beat a Ferrari 430 GTC in second and an Audi R8 LMS in to third.
So if we’re going to get the hardcore version of the hardcore M3 GTS what can we expect. The rumours seem to agree that in addition to the M3 GTS’s 450 horses, better brakes, suspension aero package and a stripped interior the BMW M3 GTS-R is likely to see a further power upgrade (but probably through tweaking the ECU rather than stroking the engine), even more liberal use of carbon fibre panels, bigger blister wheel arches and a road-going version of KERS, with a big button on the dash that says ‘Overtake Now’ (OK, we made the last bit up).
Is it possible? Of course it is. Is it likely? Not very. In fact this is far more likely to be the fevered imaginings of a teenage fan-boy on a Facespace page than anything else.
But it is just possible.
