BMW X5 (2010 / 2011) – UK prices, details +video

The BMW X5 2010 UK

BMW has revamped the X5 with cosmetic tweaks and new engines

We have details and specifications for the 2010/2011 BMW X5 including UK prices, photo gallery and video. Launches at Geneva Motor Show – on sale June 2010

Yesterday we reported on the first details of the 2010 / 2011 BMW X5. We knew the official information was due to come out today, but the first set of images had turned up – together with a fair bit of detail of the 2010 facelift for the X5 – so we thought you’d be interested in seeing what BMW had done to the X5.

As expected, the information dropped in to our inbox in the early hours and – beyond proper sized pictures of the X5 – the detail we brought you yesterday was pretty much spot-on. But what we do have is detail and prices for the UK X5 – and a video – so it’s worth a new report. We also have 40 pictures of the 2010/2011 X5. BMW actually sent us more than twice as many, but there’s a limit to how many pictures anyone needs to see – and many were very similar.

The new BMW X5 will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month and go on sale on 5th June. As we said yesterday, the cosmetic tweaks are small and include new rear bumper, LED lights and bigger air intakes, but the big changes are under the skin, with new engines and the 8-speed auto ‘box across the range.

Three new engines are available in the xDrive30d, the xDrive40d (which replaces the xDrive35d) and the xDrive50i (which replaces the xDrive48i). The xDrive30d gets a bit of a tweak with an extra 10bhp (245bhp) giving a 7.5 second 0-60mph. Emissions go down to 195g/km.

The old twin-turbo xDrive35d gets the elbow and is replaced by the xDrive40d. 0-60 mpg improves to 6.5 seconds with the extra 20bhp the 40d has over the 35d (now with 306bhp). Emissions drop by 10% (to 198g/km) and the xDrive40d averages 37.7mpg.

The old xDrive48i now also disappears to be replaced by the xDrive50i, a 4.4 litre V8 twin-turbo with 406bhp and 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds. BMW don’t make big play of the emissions on the xDrive50i – unlike others in the range – as it actually has a bigger CO2 output than the outgoing model – but only by 6g/km.

The old entry-level sDrive30d has been quietly dropped and all X5s now have 4WD. As we said above, all X5 models get the 8-speed auto box as well as leather upholstery and 4WD, together with Servotronic steering and Xenon lights.

A Geneva Motor Show launch for the X5 followed by on sale in June 2010. Lets see how the new X5 stacks up against the much more extensively changed Porsche Cayenne, which also gets revealed at Geneva.
