The Brabus SV12 R Biturbo 800 - world's fastest saloon car?
Brabus has produced the Mercedes S65-based SV12 R Biturbo 800, which they say is the fastest saloon car in the world.
Well, how else can you write a headline for an article for a car which has ridiculous amounts of power and claims to be the fastest saloon car in the world? A Jeremy Clarkson piss-take ‘Bombshell’ announcement seems the only way. So that’s what you get – the Brabus SV12 R Biturbo 800 is the fastest saloon car in the world. If you care.
And you probably shouldn’t care all that much, because although the Brabus is HUGELY powerful its extra power doesn’t shake the earth – always assuming it can actually get it down except under the most perfect of situations – compared to the Mercedes S65 on which it’s based.
The figures for the Brabus SV12 are, nonetheless, very impressive. It produces 788bhp from its 6.3 litre bi-turbo (it’s a bored-out 5.5 litre) and can produce 1,420Nm of torque, although it’s limited to ‘just’ 1,100Nm in case the extra torque shreds the gearbox and moves the magnetic pole.
All that power translates in to a 3.9 second 0-62mph and a top speed of 217mph. Which is very quick. But the bog-standard S65 manages the 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, and in all honesty that’s hard enough to get down a lot of the time. The Brabus probably spends 90% of its time with the traction control working its nuts off and going nowhere fast.
We’re also not totally convinced it will be quicker than a Panamera Turbo.
