Budget Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5 SE introduced

Mitsubishi has released the Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5 SE 4 door saloon as an entry-level, budget model.

The latest version of the Mitsubishi Lancer is not a bad car at all. True, its driving dynamics are not up there with the Ford Focus or the new VW Golf, but it makes up for that with ample space and decent looks. And now there’s a new entry-level model – The Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5 SE 4 door.

The Lancer 1.5 SE has quite a reasonable spec for the price. Included are metallic paint, 16″ alloys, Bluetooth, AirCon, front fogs, a bunch of airbags and iPod connection. Which for a starting price of £12,499 is none too shoddy.

Performance from the 1.5 litre VVT petrol engine is not startling with a 0-60 mph of 11.6 seconds, but it does manage 44mpg and has emissions of 153g/km.

The underpinnings of the Lancer are shared with the Mitsubishi Outback (and a Dodge and a Jeep), so although competent they do lack refinement in a saloon car. Still, you’re getting a decent looking, spacious and well made family saloon at a budget price. Not quite Korean budget, but as far as Japanese budget goes the Lancer is up with the best.

The Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5 SE is available to order now in the UK.
