Back to Montreal after a miss last year, with Lewis Hamilton sitting on pole. Will he make it to the finish line, or will the Red Bulls dominate once again?

In truth, there were five contenders for the Canadian Grand Prix this year. Both McLarens, both Red Bulls and Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari.

In the end it was tyres as much as anything that decided the win – a one-two for McLaren with Hamilton taking the honours and Alonso making up the podium.

Hamilton set up his win by passing Alonso whilst the pair were behind Buemi, who then pitted leaving Hamilton in the lead. Hamilton briefly lost the lead to Alonso when he pitted for tyres, but Alonso get held up on his tyre change in-lap and came out behind the McLaren.

At this stage both were well behind Webber in the Red Bull, but the Australian’s tyres were shredding quickly and his lead was quickly overturned, with Hamilton and Alonso taking first and second by lap 50. Webber stopped for tyres and came out fifth.

The action wasn’t over with Alonso starting to fall back from Hamilton and Button closing fast, managing to take second place with 14 laps left. The pair then set off after Hamilton and closed quickly until Hamilton put in a burst to seal his win.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel came in fourth with team mate Webber in fifth.
