The Chery Exeed TX SUV has been revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, as JLR’s China partners showcase their plans to take on the European market.
The Chery Exeed TX is a convincing looking compact SUV, even if it’s a bit generic with hints of the Discovery Sport and a grille not a million miles away from Lexus.
Just like China’s Lynk & Co, Chery are aiming to take Europe by storm with an SUV which will be offered only with electrification, as a Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid or pure BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle).
Claims for the Exeed TX are impressive, with Chery declaring the PHEV will combine a 148bhp 1.5 litre petrol engine with a 114bhp electric motor to deliver a 4WD SUV capable of 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds through a seven-speed hybrid transmission.
Not only that, it comes with the usual PHEV claims of 157mpg, and more interestingly Chery claim it will charge to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes with a fast charger, and fully charge at home in just four hours. It will also do up to 44 miles as an EV.
Chery have also gone to lengths to offer high-end technology, with Bosch delivering the 10″ touchscreen and 7″ instrument cluster, Continental Automotive the electronic architecture, Borg Warner the all-wheel-drive, Getrag the transmission and Benteler the new platform.
If Chery can deliver on the promises, they stand a good chance of shaking up the established order in Europe.
