Citroen has sent us a tease photo of a new Citroen – the Citroen C4 Aircross – which could be an Allroad version of the C4.
We weren’t expecting the teaser photo we had for a new Citroen this morning – the Citroen C4 Aircross. So what is it?
The logical assumption is that it’s going to be a rufty-tufty, semi-off-road version of the C4, with a jacked-up suspension and lots of add-on plastic bits to make the C4 Aircross better able to take on the rigours of the urban jungle.
Of course, this isn’t the first ‘Aircross’ model from Citroen. Last year we reported that Citroen had launched the C3 Aircross in South America, based on the C3 Picasso. That was supposed to be only for South America, but perhaps Citroen are planning on making that C3 Picasso a world model too?
If the Citroen C4 Aircross is indeed a rufty-tufty C4, then it’s going to be Citroen’s take on the Peugeot 508 RXH we saw take a bow back in August before going on sale in Spring 2012.
The 508 RXH looks a very convincing take on the ‘Allroad’ idea of a saloon car made to offer some of the benefits of a proper SUV, but without the downsides of a real off-roader. The Citroen C4 Crossover could be a more affordable version of the RXH, but still sporting the diesel hybrid powertrain and 4WD the RXH offers.
There is a chance that Citroen will choose to attach the C4 Aircross moniker to a different car altogether, and it’s always possible that the C4 Aircross could be the Citroen take on the Mitsubishi ASX, or it could be a butched-up take on the C4 Picasso.
But we’d bet on the Citroen version of the RXH.
