Citroen Survolt hits Le Mans +video

The Citroen Survolt Le Mans Classic

The Citroen Survolt goes to the Le Mans Classic

Citroen are taking its pocket-sized electric track car – the Citroen Survolt – to the Le Mans Classic on 10th July.

Citroen has been producing some pretty interesting concepts recently, and one of the more recent is the Citroen Survolt we saw at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

At the time of the reveal we heard through the grapevine that Citroen intended actually building the electric Survolt and staging a one make racing series. Yeah, right we thought. And pigs might fly. But the news today that Citroen have actually built a working Survolt and are taking it to the Le Mans Classic on Saturday makes us doubt our cynicism.

At Geneva Citroen weren’t even sure what sort of performance the Survolt could muster. According to today’s press release the Survolt has a carbon fibre body over a full tube frame and can muster 300 horses from its two electric motors. That, Citroen say, is enough to see the Survolt hit 60mph in under 5 seconds.

Although we can just about see Citroen playing with this as a track day car, we can’t see it maing production. Despite that Citroen claim its twin lithium ion battery packs each offer 31kw of stored power, offer a range of 124 miles, a top speed of 160mph and will take 10 hours to recharge from a domestic socket.

But at just over a tonne (with the batteries seemingly accounting for 25% of that weight) and 300 hp the Survolt should be a blast at the track.

Depending on where the batteries are located.
