1980 Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Custom which went for an incredible £97,875
Classic Ford Escorts are now fetching serious money, with a 1996 Escort Cosworth Lux fetching £91,125 and a 1980 Escort RS2000 Custom a huge £97,875.
That was followed by a second RS500 going up for sale at Silverstone Auction NEC sale this weekend, and it fetched an almost as impressive £112,500. But actually, it was the Ford Escort that was the real star of the sale.
Leading the pack was a 1980 Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Custom which went for an incredible £97,875.
The RS2000 Custom arrived in 1978 as a ‘Special’ version of Ford’s regular RS2000, complete with 2.0 litre four-pot good for 60mph in 8.5 seconds, and added goodies like Recaro seats, 13″ alloys, and the droop snoot front end. This car has covered just 927 miles and is, to all intents and purposes, a brand new car.
The RS2000 was closely followed by 1996 Ford Escort Cosworth Lux with just 837 miles from new, which was, effectively, the follow-on to the mighty Sierra Cosworth. It fetched £91,125.
But other Classic Fords sold strongly at the auction too, with a 1987 Capri 280 Brooklands going for 47,250 and a 1985 Escort RS Turbo fetching £44,438.
The rise and rise of the Classic Ford.
