Dodge Challenger. George Washington. English Redcoats. Must be the World Cup.

The 2010 Dodge Challenger World Cup Advert

Chrysler are running adverts for the Dodge Challenger during the US World Cup games showing George Washington routing the English Redcoats.

We know. It’s the world cup. And Ingerland played the Yankies yesterday. And they dropped the ball and managed a draw. So much for our flying start in the World Cup against a non soccer-playing nation.

But perhaps the Americans were inspired by the latest advert from Dodge showing the English being routed by George Washington.

It’s a brave advert for an American car company. Not because they’re showing the English being routed, but because it’s aimed at a World Cup audience. Which is practically non-existent in the US. Although after yesterday’s performance maybe the US will be turned on to ‘Soccer’.

Of course, we could look at this a different way. Instead of being aimed at American soccer fans – and the ad ran in the States during the England-USA match – it could well be the influence of Fiat at play now they ‘own’ Chrysler, and by default Dodge. This could simply be the passionate Italians backing the American underdog to undermine the England team.

Or maybe not.
