Ferrari 458 Italia – £25k premium

The Ferrari 458 Italia is attracting premiums of £25 in the UK

According to Glass’s guide the Ferrari 458 Italia is attracting £25k premiums with buyers desperate to get the first cars in the UK.

It seems a long time since the Ferrari 458 Italia was revealed. But only now are we getting even close to seeing the first customer cars being delivered in the UK. But it seems – at least according to the man from Glass’s guide – that the 458 Italia is yielding big interest in the UK with desperate buyers pushing the price up by £25k above list.

Which is quite surprising. We know that there are always buyers of new cars – particularly exotic supercars - who are prepared to pay more to get one ahead of the pack. And that does make sense if the car in question is going to be a real rarity – for example the Aston Martin One-77 or the Ferrari F70 or even the Lamborghini Reventon. Then it’s a case of get in quick or you’ll never have one.

But the 458 Italia will be around for years. And the wait to get one at list price – or even below – won’t be long. In Europe the cars that are already on the ground – and yes, the 458 Italia is already with customers in Europe –  are attracting similar premiums. But there doesn’t seem to be a huge rush to buy. Interestingly, we know of several 458s for March and April (in Europe) that can be bought for list price.

I suppose that if having the 458 ahead of the rest is worth upwards of £3k a week – which is roughly the cost between ‘Have it now’ or ‘Have it later’ –  then fair enough.

Personally, I’d rather have the £25k and wait a month or two.

Got an opinion on the premiums being asked for the 458 Italia? Would you cough up that much to be a few months ahead of the pack? Share it with us – and hundreds of thousands of Cars UK readers – by letting us know what you think in the comments below.
