Fiat 500C – the reveal happens

As we told you on Saturday, Fiat intended unveiling the new convertible 500 - The Fiat 500C – today, and here we have the first official images of the car.

As we expected, the 500C gets a full-length canvas roof, with the C pillars staying in place to keep the cost down and add strength. But it seems we were wrong on its action – it’s going to be electric. Posh, eh?!

The Fiat 500 is a great, cute, fun runaround that has been more faithful to the original than the Mini managed. The Mini has, in many of its iterations, gone pretty upmarket (I mean, you can pay over £23k – for a Mini!), but Fiat seem intent on keeping the 500C affordable. Hence the canvas top and fixed sides.

But I do wonder how good rear visibility is going to be with the roof down. Looks pretty compromised to me.

The 500C looks pretty good to us, and will make a great fun car in the Summer (but with all this global warming around it’s bound to be cold and wet this Summer. After all, if global warming means back to the winters of old, obviously we’re back to the summers of old too!).

Still, we expect to see the 500C starting at under £10k, so it’s going to be one of the most affordable rag tops on the market. And it’s cool. So it will sell well.
