Honda has released UK prices for the Honda CR-Z hybrid, starting at £17k and rising to over £20k. On sale from this week with first deliveries in June.
The Honda CR-Z – Honda’s Sporty Hybrid – goes on sale in the UK this week, so Honda has left it about as late as it could to let us have details of prices and models for the UK. Then again, with cars like the hybrid CR-Z many buyers seem to care more about the ‘Green Halo’ that they feel they acquire when they buy a car like this than the price and specifications.
But for the sensible amongst you, it’s best to know what you’re getting and how much it will be. Starting point is the Honda CR-Z S at £16,999 with a spec which includes Climate , CD player, heated door mirrors, rear dimming mirror, electric windows, daytime running lights, Shift Indicator Light (SIL) and auxilliary socket. Nothing to get hugely excited about.
One up from the CR-Z S comes the Honda CR-Z Sport at £17,999. Spec here adds ambient lighting, alloy pedals, cruise, multi function steering wheel, parking sensors, privacy glass and 240W premium audio system with USB. So it looks like you need to spend at least £18k to get a spec that makes life with the CR-Z comfortable.
If you’re feeling extravagant you can opt for the Honda CR-Z GT which will set you back £19,999. The extra £2k buys you extras such as full leather, heated front seats, panoramic glass roof, Xenos, Hands-Free Phone, auto lights and wipers. You can also opt for DVD SatNav, although that will cost you more.
If you have to have a hybrid at least the CR-Z promises to be a bit more involving than its sibling the Honda Insight, or the Prius from Toyota. But it seems unlikely to be an exactly stimulating experience, despite Honda’s Sporty claims. And it’s far from cheap, with the top model over £20k once you add some toys.
And if you want to go mad you could order up the Mugen Honda CR-Z. But that’ll probably cost you as much as a Focus RS.
