Hyundai’s new Click to buy online car buying website has now scored not just its first sales, but real customer cars are already being delivered.
Traditional car dealers won’t like it, but just like so many businesses before them they are going to be consigned to a quirky footnote in history as car buyers go online to use car buying website like Hyundai’s Click to Buy.
As we reported at the start of January, Hyundai’s Click to Buy – in reality an Amazon for buying a Hyundai – online ‘dealership’ website went live, and it’s already clocking up sales and deliveries.
In fact, since it went live on 6 January, Hyundai’s Click to Buy site has recorded 92,000 site visits, with 23 real sales – 43 per cent of which traded in a car online – with the vast majority choosing to pick up their new Hyundai from a local dealer.
The first buyer was Keith Piele from Poole who traded in his current i10 for a brand new one, easily sorted a trade-in deal online, but chose to pick up his car from his local Hyundai dealer – as have 93% of Click to Buy buyers, and 90 per cent of Rockar sales).
That decision may have a lot to do with buyers still needing to feel ‘connected’ to their purchase, but the time will come when your new car will turn up just like every other online buy.
One buyer who did exactly that – John Freel from York – traded in his i40 for a brand new Tucson, sorted an offer for his part ex easily on the Click to Buy site and had his new car delivered to his home.
John Freel said:
Click To Buy allowed me to point out specific minor damage so the price was fair and that made me happy – I can’t be bothered going into showrooms half the time and I don’t like being pressurised.
Click To Buy was such an easy process, I was actually doing it at work and I liked the fact that I could save what I was doing and go back to it later. I did this a few times when things were quieter, and then thought ‘fine, I’m just going to go for it, and click!’
And frankly, in the next few years, that’s exactly how the majority of us will be getting our new cars.
