The new Jaguar XE SV Project 8 – Jaguar’s most potent road car ever – has won the Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper Trophy at Goodwood FoS.
The Michelin Supercar Paddock at the Goodwood Festival of Speed allows you to get up close and personal with the world’s greatest supercars, from Bugattis to Ferraris and Porsches to McLarens.
But this year’s supercar paddock at Goodwood had a car you might normally consider a rep special or slightly upmarket family car – the Jaguar XE.
But this wasn’t just any old XE sneaking its way in to the company of the world’s finest supercars, it was the new Jaguar XE SV Project 8.
Revealed just days before Goodwood, the XE SV Project 8 is a supercar in the guise of a family car, boasting 592bhp from its supercharged 5.0 litre V8, lumps of carbon fibre, an extreme look and 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds. Definitely supercar performance.
The only four-door car in the 50-strong Supercar Paddock, the XE caught the imagination of Goodwood’s visiting petrolheads who voted it in to the top six cars on show, putting it straight in to the Supercar Paddock Showstopper Trophy final.
The final decision was made by a panel of experts led by BTCC Champion Tim Harvey, and they voted the XE SV Project 8 the winner.
Tim Harvey said:
Jaguar’s Project 8 really took everyone by surprise at the Festival this weekend. Not only was it the car’s world debut – but the sheer extremes of the car, and the way it’s pushed the boundaries in every single way, made it an absolute stand out in the Michelin Supercar Paddock.
This shone through in the online vote, and when it came to our judging panel, we were all pretty quickly won over by the Jaguar as a true star of the short-listed six. It really does it for me as a former touring car racer, and the car’s uncompromising looks and performance secured the rest. Congratulations Jaguar.
So if you’ve got £150,000 to spare for one of just 300 XE SV Project 8 cars, you’ll be able to boast it beat 50 of the world’s greatest supercars to win at Goodwood.
Which makes its £150k price tag a bit of a bargain.
