The McLaren 650s is a new supercar from McLaren which will debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show sitting above the 12C in McLaren’s range
No, this isn’t the next properly new car we’re expecting from McLaren – the more affordable McLaren P13 to take on the high-end Porsche 911s and Audi A8s – but a new model McLaren say will sit between the 12C and the P1.
But we’re pretty sure that this isn’t McLaren trying to position a new supercar in the £4-500k bracket (midway between the 12C and P1) but a ’12C Plus’ with new styling and more power.
We assume the ‘650’ bit in the name refers to the new McLaren’s power output, which would equate to 641bhp, 25bhp more than the 12C, and is aimed at putting the Ferrari 458 Speciale in its place.
We’re also expecting the 650S to get styling more like the P1’s, rather than the slightly bland and generic styling of the 12C, a look that could very well carry over to a makeover for the 12C.
For now, McLaren are revealing nothing but the 650S’s name and its place in the McLaren range. But they do say more details will be revealed before its debut on 4th March in Geneva, and we’re expecting first photos and details on the 650S next week.
