The new Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet has gone on sale in the UK, costing from £110,120 for the S 500 to £192,805 for the range-topping AMG S 65 Cabriolet.
The Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year (with the AMG S65 Cabriolet getting revealed in December 2015), managing to look quite cool and elegant, rather than the transport of a despot or oligarch.
Now, the new S-Class Cabriolet is going on sale in the UK starting at £110,120 for the entry-level S 500 Cab, and rising, rather steeply, to £192,805 for the AMG S 65 Cabriolet, with the AMG S 63 Can sitting in the middle at £135,675.
The S 500 comes with Mercedes 4.6 litre V8 twin turbo delivering 449bhp, the AMG S 65 with the 5.5 litre twin turbo delivering 577bhp and the AMG S65 the creamy 6.0 litre V12 with 621bhp.
That translates to performance of 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds for the S 500, 4.2 seconds for the AMG S 63 and 4.1 seconds for the AMG S 65, with a top speed of 155mph unless you opt for the AMG Driver’s Package on the S 63 and S 65 and then it’s 186mph.
As you might reasonably expect on an S-Class, the spec is better than basic even on the entry-level S 500, with an AMG body kit, 19″ alloys, LED headlights, Adaptive High Beam, AIRMATIC suspension, COMAND with Sat Nav and 12.3″ TFT screen, Airscarf, electric heated and ventilated seats, Climate and, of course, the electric folding roof.
Stump up and extra £25,555 for the AMG S 63 and you’ll also get a matt silver front splitter, AMG grille, AMG chrome tail pipes, ‘V8 BITURBO’ badges, 19″ AMG alloys, Burmester sound, AMG Sports Exhaust, Driver Assistance Package and Nappa leather.
If, however, you feel inclined to spend an extra £82,685 over the S 500 (which would buy you a half decent Range Rover) and splash out on the AMG S 65 Cabriolet, you can add in to the mix and LED intelligent light system with Swarovski crystals, AMG sport exhaust with two polished twin tail pipes, 20″ alloys, ‘V12 BITURBO’ badges, Exclusive Nappa leather with diamond quilting, laminated AMG sill plates, heated steering wheel, Night View Assist and an even better Burmester 3D sound system.
The Driving Assistance Package on the S 63 and S 65 gives you 360 degree camera, Active Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping, Brake Assist with Junction Assist, DISTRONIC Plus and Pre-Safe brake with pedestrian detection. You can also add it to the S 500 for £2,295.
The entire Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet range is now on sale at Mercedes’ UK dealers, with first customer cars expected in the summer.
