The 2010 Mercedes E Class Estate launches in the UK this week
The 2010 Mercedes E Class Estate has now been launched in the UK with a choice of seven engines and prices from £29,785 to £73,855.
The 2010 Mercedes E Class Estate has hit the UK this week, with the E Class Estate going on sale for the first time, with versions ranging from the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY right up to the range topping E63 AMG Estate and prices from £29,785 up to a rather large £73,855.
But it’s not just the price that’s large – at least on the E63 AMG – it’s the E Class Estate itself. It is quite simply cavernous, offering 696 litres of load space with the seats up and 1950 litres with the seats down. And you can add to that an additional 112 litres under the floor. Which gives the Mercedes more load space than just about anything else in its class – perfect for a successful antique dealer.
There are engine choices to suit all with four petrol and three diesels on offer at launch. And there will be a fourth diesel added in May when the E350 Bluetec goes on sale. Mercedes are billing the E350 Bluetec as the world’s cleanest diesel engine as it injects a water-based urea solution in to the exhaust to dramatically reduce pollutants, in particular NOx.
Three trim levels are available – SE, Avantgarde and Sport – and lots of toys on the E Class Estate, including the Easy-Pack electronic tailgate which not only lets you open the tailgate with the remote, but folds back the load cover as well. Self-levelling air suspension is also included to make sure that if you fill up all that space the arse won’t be dragging on the road. Other notable stuff includes a drowsiness monitor, adaptive high-beam assistance and pedestrian protection system.
Some steep prices – particularly at the top end – but if you’re looking for an elegant, well built and well specified load carrier you could do a lot worse than pick one of the diesels. Or you could go barking mad and grab an E63 AMG Estate. But that’s now perilously close to the RS6 Avant in price.
