Last week we reported that Mercedes are adding a pair of AMG models to the top of the new G Class range, with the V8 G63 AMG and the G65 AMG offering astonishing performance from a car that’s been around almost as long as Bruce Forsyth.
Sadly the UK won’t be getting the G65 (although if you’re mad enough to spend £250k on a G Class you can bring a LHD one in from Germany), but we will be getting the G63 AMG with the 5.5 litre bi-turbo.
The G63 AMG isn’t that far behind the G65 in the performance stakes – it’ll take just 5.4 seconds to get to 62mph – but it will cost around half of the G65 – but that still means a UK price somewhere around £125k for the G63.
For that huge amount of money you will get an SUV that will go anywhere -at almost any speed – probably without ever breaking – and in reasonable comfort. There’s a revised interior with Infotainment and Designo leather and you can even add a carbon trim Exclusive Package if you want to spend more.
Mercedes say RHD G63s will be on sale in the UK by the Autumn.
