Mercedes installing EV charging at UK Dealers

The Elektrobay Car Charging Point

Elektrobay Car Charging Points are being installed at Mercedes Dealers across the UK

Mercedes are rolling out Electric Car recharging points across their dealer network in the UK

Maybe they planned it before the news that the new Government are considering withdrawing the planned subsidy for electric cars. Or maybe not. But whichever it is Mercedes has started installing EV charging stations at its UK dealers.

So far 20 Elektrobay recharging units have been put in at seven Mercedes locations round the UK, with further expansion planned through 2010. There are 3 EV charging bays at Mercedes Benz World (Woking), 4 at the MB Flagship dealers in Brentford, 7 spread across three Mercedes dealers in the Midlands and 3 on the Edgware Road outside the MB dealers.

Mercedes MD Dermot Kelly said

“Electric vehicles will form an increasingly important part of our product development plans, and it is crucial that we put in place a recharging infrastructure to help our dealers and customers join the zero-emission revolution”.

Which he may believe, but it probably has more to do with the impending launch of the Smart fortwo electric drive trial where Mercedes are going to look a bit daft if users can’t charge their Smarts at a Merc dealers.
