Just a couple of days on from the reveal of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, Mercedes delivers a video of their new Black Series.
The SLS Black Series has been a long time coming, but with the SLS effectively being the Mercedes replacement for the McLaren SLR, a Black Series version was always a certainty to try and emulate the performance of the SLR.
And the SLS Black probably gets closer to what the McLaren SLR offered than the regular SLS does, although it’s still down on the power of the SLR, and its performance to 62mph is no better and its top speed is 10mph slower. Still, even if it will cost around £200k, it’s still a big chunk cheaper than the SLR was.
Of course, the SLR was always the Mercedes vision of a supercar (McLaren’s was the 12c and the soon to arrive hypercar – the McLaren P1) with its big nose, front-engined, rear wheel drive setup, and the SLS has continued that mindset. But it is appealing.
Now, just a few days after the SLS Black had its official reveal, we get the video trailer from Mercedes-Benz of their new performance star. And it looks very good, even if we’d have preferred to hear the sound of a bellowing V8 than the strains of a Carl Orf-inspired soundtrack.
Still, the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series on the move is worth a watch.
