The MG GTS – a new SUV / Crossover from MG – with new platform and engine options, has been revealed ahead of an on sale date of 2016 in the UK.
The MG CS SUV Concept arrived at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show and previewed a new SUV/Crossover from MG to tap in to the burgeoning family SUV market, and now it’s arrived as the MG GTS.
The MG GTS won’t be going on sale in the UK and Europe until 2016, but it is expected to be available in China much sooner, probably early summer 2015, and is underpinned by a new scalable platform developed by SAIC.
Aimed at cars like Hyundai’s ix35, the Kia Sportage and Honda’s CR-V, the new MG SUV will look to undercut all on price, despite which it looks set to get a decent engine choice, 4WD and a six-speed dual-clutch auto.
The launch engine for the GTS in China looks to be a 2.0 litre turbo petrol with 217bhp with drive transmitted either to the front or all four wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch ‘box, enough for an 8.0 second 0-62mph.
Other engine options include a 1.5 litre petrol turbo with 167bhp, with a 1.8 litre turbo diesel joining the range before the MG GTS arrives in the UK in early 2016.
