The 2018 Mercedes CLS, revealed at the LA Motor Show, goes on sale in the UK with prices starting from £57,150 for the CLS 350 d 4MATIC AMG Line.
That buys you the CLS 350 d 4MATIC AMG Line (all UK CLS models come with 4MATIC AWD), with the CLS 400 d 4MATIC AMG Line at £60,410 and the CLS 450 4MATIC AMG Line at £57,610.
The diesel versions of the CLS – 350 d and 400 d – both get Mercedes’ new in-line six-cylinder diesels, the 350 d with 282bhp and 442lb/ft of torque and the 400 d with 335bhp and 516lb/ft of torque.
That’s enough to get the 350 d to 62mph in 5.7 seconds and deliver (official) economy of 48.7mpg and the 400 d in 5.0 seconds and 47.9mpg.
Probably the pick is the CLS 450 petrol which gets a 3.0 litre in-line six with Mercedes’ new EQ boost with 48v electrics.
It gets 362bhp with a 22bhp boost from the EQ too, enough for a 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and official economy of 36.2mpg.
For now, the three engines choices are all that’s on offer, and the AMG Line trim the only option too.
All models of the new CLS get 19″ alloys, Parking Package, Leather, 12.3″ Infotainment, 12.3″ Cockpit Display Agility Control Suspension, DAB and ambient lighting.
But it wouldn’t be Mercedes without a plethora of options to empty your bank account, so you can add in stuff like Premium Plus Equipment for £3,895, which gives you Keyless, Memory, Burmester Sound, 360 Camera, COMAND online and an electric sunroof (which you will probably add).
Other options include the Comfort Package with stuff like Air Suspension and Nappa Leather for £2,495 and the Driving Assistance Package for a raft of assistance electronic gizmos for another £1,695.
The 2018 Mercedes CLS is now on sale at Mercedes’ UK dealers, with first customer cars due in summer 2018.
