Ford is releasing an eight-part video documentary series to highlight and explain the development of the new, 4WD, 2016 Focus RS delivered over 8 weeks.
The new Ford Focus RS has been a long time coming, but Ford has now pretty much revealed all we need to know about the new RS, except to find out how it drives, and now they’re telling us about the RS’s development in an eight week, eight part video series starting on 30 September 2015.
On hand at many of the RS outings in the series will be ‘Mr Drift’ – Ken Block – and Ford’s Chief Technical Officer Raj Nair as Ford charts the progress of the RS from hot to cold climates, and from design to crash testing.
The episodes on offer will be:
- Episode 1: Project kick-off – Ken Block and Raj Nair debate what the car should deliver, from behind the wheel of an early prototype
- Episode 2: Design and development – Crunching crashes put the new design to the toughest of tests
- Episode 3: Hitting the road – A 1,600-kilometre (1,000-mile) drive through epic terrain takes prototypes from high in the Rocky Mountains to the Arizona desert
- Episode 4: Test-track trials – Block heads for Ford’s top-secret test facility, and indulges in some “hooning”
- Episode 5: Arctic extremes – Winter testing in Sweden, and the team is under pressure to improve performance
- Episode 6: Power struggle – It’s all about performance, as the Ford manufacturing plant in Saarlouis, Germany, gears up for production
- Episode 7: Close scrutiny – The day of the critical sign-off drive follows Block’s headline appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
- Episode 8: Final chapter – It’s time for the nail-biting management review
Ford are promising a ‘warts and all’ look at the triumphs – and disasters – along the way, and it’s a great way to get even more potential buyers interested in Ford’s new RD.
But with great ‘Hot Hatch’ looks, four-wheel drive – but with the ability to ‘hoon’ – 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds, 345bhp and a starting price of just £28,940, we don’t think Ford will have too much trouble shifting a shed load of the RS Focus.
