The new Ford Kuga is now hitting UK showrooms, and Ford has revealed that 87% of buyers are opting for the range-topping Titanium and Titanium X models.
The new 2013 Ford Kuga finally went in to production in December and is now starting to arrive in Ford’s UK showrooms, and already Ford has orders for 1,850 new Kugas – 1600 of which were to private buyers. So, a strong start for the new Ford Kuga.
But what’s most interesting – in what is supposed to be a cash-strapped economy – is that a full 87 per cent of all the new Kugas ordered so far have been the range-topping Titanium and Titanium X models, and the average up-spend on options is another £1,000 on top of that.
That means that although the Ford Kuga range starts at £21,000, 87 per cent of buyers are actually spending between £25-30k on their new compact SUV, which must warm the cockles of Ford’s heart. Well, assuming there are no real discounts on the new Kuga yet.
Just about every new Kuga we’ve seen has been the Titanium or Titanium X, and we thought that was because we’re in the heart of Ford Exec country, where every ‘Ford Wife’ seems to be running one at the moment. But it seems Kuga buyers round the UK want the Kuga with all the toys too.
And not ones to miss out on an opportunity, Ford has decided that if 87 per cent of buyers are opting for the top of the range Kuga, then there’s room for a model with even more toys and expensive trim above the Titanium X.
So look out for the Kuga Titanium XX or Titanium Ultimate or Titanium Black, or whatever ‘exclusive’ moniker jumps in to Ford’s head, to arrive at Frankfurt in September.
