The new Lexus ES – effectively a replacement for the Lexus GS – costs from £35,150 in the UK rising to £45,650. Only available as the ES 300h Hybrid.
It’s been mooted for some time that the Lexus GS will be replaced in the UK by the Lexus ES, and back in April we announced that is officially what’s happening.
In some ways it’s a shame that the GS is going – it’s a car we like very much – but in a pragmatic world the GS was just too close to the ES in size, and a bit too expensive to properly compete with the German Premium saloons. So we now have to get used to a front-wheel drive ES in its place.
Effectively a Toyota Camry under the skin, in the UK we will only get the ES 300h with its ‘self-charging’ hybrid powertrain, and a choice of regular ES, ES F Sport and ES Takumi trim levels.
The regular, entry-level ES comes with Lexus Saftey Ststem+, 17″ alloys, Lexus Nav with 8″ screen DAB, Parking Sensors, heated electric seats (in the front), a sunroof and Tahara upholstery, whilst the ES F Sport gets a proper Lexus F Sport interior with F Sport seats, 19″ alloys and Adaptive Sports Suspension.
The top of the range ES 300h Takumi throws most of Lexus’s toys in the price with kick-to-open electric boot, heated and power reclining seats, 12.3″ infotainment screen, Mark Levinson Sound, Triple-Zone Climate and Triple EYE Adaptive LED headlights.
If you want bigger specs on the entry-level model you can have the Premium Pack (£3,500) which adds leather, seat ventilation, rear sunscreen, Triple-eye LED, 18″ alloys and Blind Spot.
The F Sport can be had with a Tech and Safety Pack (£700) to add the Triple-eye LED lights, wireless charger and heated steering wheel, or with a Takumi Pack (£4,000) which adds Mark Levinson Sound, HUD, Premium Nav with 12.3 2 screen, kick open boot and rear sun shade.
Order books for the new Lexus ES officially open on 1 October, but UK Lexus dealers will play already.
