Mazda has announced they will reveal a new compact SUV at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Could this be a Mazda CX-4 for the UK and Europe?
Mazda is on record as saying that they have no intention of extending their SUV range beyond the CX-3 and CX-5 in Europe. But it seems they’ve had a change of heart.
Unless this is a new CX-3 – which seems unlikely – then Mazda are planning a new compact SUV to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. And because it’s billed as a ‘Compact’ SUV it can’t really be an SUV to slot in above the CX-5.
Mazda do say the new SUV will be built on the new-generation SKYACTIV-Vehicle Architecture and get the latest SKYACTIV engines including the new compression ignition petrol, as well as featuring a ‘more mature Kodo design’.
That’s not giving much away, but it’s probably reasonable to assume this new SUV will slot in to Mazda’s range between the CX-3 and CX-5. Could it be a Mazda CX-4 for the UK and Europe?
The Mazda CX-4 already exists in China as a coupe SUV take on the CX-3, and it would make sense, as the popularity of even niche SUVs continues to grow, to deliver a ‘lifestyle’ SUV to sit between Mazda’s current models.
We’ll soon find out with the new Mazda SUV due to debut in a month’s time.
