With the new Mercedes A 35 AMG soon to arrive in Mercedes showrooms, Brabus is offering an alternative with a fettled version of the A 250.
It almost seems sad that Brabus – Mercedes tuners of long standing – are being forced to turn their attention to little four-pot Mercedes shopping trolleys instead of tweaking and fettling glorious V8 and V12 lumps. But such are the times.
The arrival of the new Brabus take on the Mercedes A 250 comes at just about the same time as Mercedes AMG-light take on the new A Class with its A 35, and although you might have expected Brabus to deliver a fettled A 250 with more than the A 35 it doesn’t. Well, not really.
Power in Brabus’s A 250 is stretched to 270bhp – 35bhp less than the A 35 – but it does manage to extract more torque, with 317lb/ft on offer. Available with FWD or 4WD, the Brabus A 250 is said to be good for 62mph in 5.9 seconds – more than a second slower than the A 35.
You get the usual Brabus visual tweaks – the more you spend the more you get – with two-piece front splitter, new diffuser, quad tail pipes at the end of an exhaust with more music, a big rear spoiler and specially-developed wheels and tyres from 17-20″.
Inside is even more of a an open-ended cheque book offering, with whatever you want in terms of leather lashings, carbon fibre, Alcantara and pretty much whatever you want and are prepared to spend.
Worried a fettled Brabus A 250 might screw with your Mercedes warranty? Don’t – Brabus warrant the car for three years.
