Nissan are teasing the Resonance Concept ahead of a debut at the Detroit Auto Show, which could be the next Murano SUV.
The 2013 Detroit Auto show is looming, and the teases are starting to gather momentum as car makers seek to pique interest in their new and future models. This afternoon it’s the turn of Nissan to tease a new concept for Detroit – the Nissan Resonance Concept – although beyond the usual teaser image (above) there’s little to go on.
But what the Nissan Resonance Concept could be is a pointer towards a new Nissan Murano SUV which, apart from turning up as a Murano Convertible SUV and a mild facelift and diesel engine in 2010 – is unchanged since it arrived in 2009.
But last year Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s global design boss, said that the next Murano – expected to arrive in 2014 – would ‘shock’ the industry with its design, so the Resonance Concept could point at that ‘shock’ to come.
In fact, the Resonance has a profile that seems to be heading in the direction of the Evoque with its high waist and coupe-like roof, although a concept is not necessarily going to transfer its promise to any production Murano.
Under the bonnet of the Resonance Concept seems to be a hybrid-electric powertrain, which could point towards a hybrid version of the next Murano offering 4WD courtesy of an electric motor on the back axle.
No doubt all will become clear when the Nissan Resonance Concept debuts at Detroit next week.
