It has been revealed that Peugeot and Citroen are to produce versions of the Mitsubishi compact crossover – the Mitsubishi ASX / RVR – by 2012.
It’s a bit of a Mitsubishi morning, what with the UK details on the facelifted Outlander and now the news that the compact crossover that is the Mitsubishi ASX (or Mitsubishi RVR, depending on where you live) is to spawn both a Peugeot and Citroen derivative.
Which is not exactly a shock. The Gallic duo already enjoy a close working relationship with Mitsubishi and offer PSA versions of the ASX’s big brother – the Mitsubishi Outlander – as the Peugeot 4007 and the Citroen C Crosser. Not only that, but the Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric model will be branded as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero.
Mitsubishi are planning on launching the RVR this Spring in the UK (they’d better get a shake on) but it appears the PSA versions won’t be arriving until 2012. And unlike the RVR – which gets a 1.8 diesel – PSA are planning on using a 1.6 HDi diesel engine in theirs which could drop the CO2 figures on the 2WD versions as low as 123g/km.
It appears that PSA are planning on sales of 50,000 of the yet-to-be-named French compact crossover. We doubt PSA have come up with names yet, but we’ve asked them anyway. We’ll update here if we get an answer.
