Porsche Cayman S Black Edition completes the hat trick

Porsche Cayman S Black Edition - just 500 built at £50,420

Porsche Cayman S Black Edition - the trio is compete

Porsche has revealed the third in its range of Black Edition Sports Cars – the Porsche Cayman S Black Edition. On sale September from £50,420.

It had to arrive soon, the Porsche Cayman S Black Edition. After all, we had the 911 Black Edition in January and the Boxster Black Edition a month later at the Geneva Motor Show. Now Porsche’s world of Black Edition Sports cars is complete.

Just as with the 911 and the Boxster, the Cayman S Black Edition is, in many ways, a goodbye model for the standard range – due for replacement in 2012 – and gets the formula makeover for a Porsche limited edition – black everything, more kit, bigger wheels and a few more horses.

Those extra horses – 10 more for a total of 325bhp – mean the Cayman Black sports the same power as the Cayman R, which cuts the 0-62mph to 5.1 seconds (just 4.8 seconds if you stump up for the PDK – yes, computers are quicker than we are).

Under the skin the Cayman S Black is unchanged, but it does get the 19″ alloys from the Cayman R which pairs 8.5″ 235/35/19 up front with 10″ 265/35 out back. A butch statement, it has to be said.

Inside, the Cayman S Black Edition is…black. There’s seats trimmed in black leather – with embossed logo – as is the dashboard and even the instruments. There’s a bit of light relief from the blackness with stainless steel scuff plates with ‘Black Edition’ on them but otherwise, whatever it is, it’s black.

Standard kit includes Bi-Xenons with cornering, LED daytime running lights, PCM, Bluetooth, Cruise, Climate and iPod connection. Which makes for a pretty well-equipped Cayman.

Porsche are building just 500 Black Edition Cayman S which go on sale in September in the UK, starting at £50,420.

Which is only £1k less than the Cayman R.
