Land Rover will be giving us a ‘Sneak Peek’ at the Range Rover LRX – & be giving it a name – at a party at Kensington Palace. And it will be LIVE on Cars UK.
We always though that Land Rover would capitalise on its 40th anniversary celebrations for the Range Rover this year to debut the future for Range Rover in the guise of the ‘Compact Range Rover’ – or Range Rover LRX, as we’ve got used to calling it. A nice juxtaposition of the past and the future, we reckoned. Perfect opportunity.
In fact we first reported that the Land Rover LRX was likely to get a debut in June this year back in August last year (when we still though it would be badged Land Rover), although Land Rover didn’t actually say as much in September ’09 when they finally confirmed the Range Rover LRX would debut in 2010 before going on sale in mid 2011.
But we got it wrong. Land Rover didn’t roll out the LRX on 17th June to show the future as well as the past when the Range Rover hit 40. Instead we got the news of the 2011 Range Rover and the 4.4 litre TDV8 it will get. But we weren’t as wrong as Land Rover were still telling us until quite recently (although they have told us they’ve only just decided to give us a quick shufty – honest, guv!).
We’ll get a ‘Sneak Peek’ at the production-ready Range Rover LRX at a 40th anniversary celebration for Range Rover, which Land Rover are hosting on 1st July in the Orangery at Kensington Palace (which for perspective for our non-UK readers is the former home of Diana, Princess of Wales – as if you needed telling). It won’t tell us a lot we don’t already know, but what we will get is a name. Yep, Land Rover are going to tell us what the ‘Compact Range Range Rover’ is going to be called (please don’t let it be ‘Compact Range Rover’).
And you can watch all this LIVE here on Cars UK, starting at 8.30pm. That’s 8.30pm BST on 1st July. 3.30pm East Coast US. 12.30pm West Coast US. 9.30pm in Europe. And sometime three weeks next Tuesday for Japan and Oz.
So bookmark this page or use any of the links below to post it to your social pages. This won’t be a full reveal – you really will have to wait until the Paris Motor Show for that – but it’s as close as you’re going to get for now.
And at least you’ll know what to call it.
