Renault has launched the range-topping Renault Wind Roadster Gordini in to the UK and cut the price of the existing Wind models by over £2k.
For those who don’t know, the Renault Wind isn’t a breeze crossing the Channel from central France but is actually a convertible version of the Renault Twingo. And now it’s got a new top-end version – the Renault Wind Gordini.
As regular readers will know, Renault has revived the Gordini moniker to attach to tarted and titivated Renaults to extract a bigger price from punters looking for something funky and retro.
Sadly, Renault hasn’t thought it appropriate to add more oomph to the Gordini, just the play with the cosmetics. But I suppose that’s what Renaultsport is for.
The Wind Gordini gets the requisite Blue paint job with white Gordini stripes. In the mix is chrome-look bodywork detailing, white door mirrors and grill and polished 17″ alloys with gloss black inserts.
The interior of the Wind Gordini gets trimmed in blue and dark grey leather – with Gordini logo – a blue Gordini badge, blue gearstick surround and a numbered Gordini plaque.
All of which seems to have caused something of a dilemma for Renault on the pricing front. The existing range-topper – the GT Line 1.6 VVT 133 – costs a quite weighty £17k, which means the Gordini would have to come in at more money, something it appears Renault has decided won’t work.
So they’ve dropped the price of the Wind across the range, with the entry-level Dynamique .2 TCe now costing £12,995 instead of £15,205.
The price at the top has also dropped with the GT Line 1.6 VVT 133 dropping in price from £17k to £14,795 and the new Gordini coming in at a starting price of £15,195.
All of which is very good news if you want a (now) relatively cheap and funky little roadster to go play in the sun this summer.
Unless you’ve just bought a Wind from Renault at the old price, that is.

£13k for a Renault Wind with a clever opening roof looks like a real bargain. Is there anything else out there with an auto metal roof for less?
