Chinese car maker SAIC are expected to debut their latest car – the Roewe 350 – at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Will this be the MG3?
As lovers of MG are only too well aware, their beloved ‘Morris Garages’ brand is now in the hands of the Chinese. Which is no doubt a big cultural obstacle for many to overcome, but actually bodes quite well for a future for MG. Even if that future doesn’t actually get based round a fifty year old car being titivated at regular intervals in a desperate attempt to keep the marque alive.
We already know that MG owners SAIC are going to be producing the Roewe 550 in the UK – at the Longbridge plant – which will be marketed throughout Europe as the MG6. It also seems likely – if recent reports are right – that we’re also going to see a supermini MG arrive in the form of the MG2 which is said to be based on Fiat’s Small Common Components and Systems (SCCS) platform. The MG2 is rumoured to arrive at the Beijing Motor show, so as that is scheduled for next month we should know soon enough.
But now it seems you can add an MG3 to the mix, with reports coming from China that SAIC will be debuting the Roewe 350 at the Beijing show, which will be marketed in Europe as the MG3. It looks like the MG3 will be a C-Segment car offering a gap-filler between the MG2 and MG5.
We’ll probably know more next month at Beijing.
