Skoda Fabia Scout – UK Launch

The new Skoda Fabia Scout has launched in the UK

Skoda brought us a preview of the Fabia Scout at the Geneva Motor Show this year, and have announced that the car is now up for grabs in the UK.

We were a little underwhelmed when the Skoda Fabia Scout was revealed, and we really haven’t changed our minds. We can’t argue that Skodas don’t offer great value for money -  and they are very well bolted together – but the Skoda Fabia Scout seems to lack the substance to substantiate its promise.

Based on the Skoda Fabia this is a ‘butched-up’ version featuring a raised ride height, added chunky bits of plastic and looks like it will be a great little crossover estate. But it isn’t. It’s all looks and no substance because it doesn’t add four wheel drive to the package. It’s a ‘go faster rally-stripe’ car that looks purposeful but doesn’t deliver.

But it might appeal for those who want an urban run-around that looks tough. Something for taking kids on the school run or coping with the car park rough and tumble.

The Fabia Scout offers a choice of three engines – a 1.4 TDi with 80bhp, a 1.9 TDi with 105bhp and a 1.4 petrol with 85bhp. You get a reasonable number of bits in the standard kit including 16″ alloys, cruise control, electric windows and traction control. Options include a variable boot floor and bigger alloys.

We’re sure there will be a market for the Skoda Fabia Scout, but if it were our money we’d opt for the Skoda Yeti. That can actually walk the walk.

  1. DAVE says:

It would help if it was factually correct – there is no 1.9 TDi and no mention of the 1.6 TDi – ???

    • CarsUK says:

According to Skoda it is factually correct!! At the time of the article this is what Skoda sent us, and the model detail is a straight cut and paste from their press info. But of course you’re right. The Scout options are wrong. We’ve even checked back on the original press release and that’s what Skoda told us. But it’s not sensible to leave it as it is – even though all articles on the site are ‘of their time’ as news articles. So we’ve changed it and put the latest prices in.

      Thanks for the eagle eyes.
